How
To Be Part of the Solution
The Legacy Fund for Mental Health
at the Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic:
Emergency
Counseling for Those in Need
What
is its purpose?
This fund is made
up of individual and company donations given to the Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic for the sole purpose of providing free counseling to
individuals who are in critical need of therapy but without
the ability to pay. 2006 marks the eighth year of the fund's
existence. But, as our economy worsens and more people are
thrown off California's MediCal rolls, the need for this type
of help only grows larger.
Who
are its recipients?
People of
all ages and from all walks of life who can't afford the Lomi
Psychotherapy Clinic's lowest sliding scale fee of $25 per therapy
session. This can be someone who loses a job while in counseling,
a single mother with children who's living out of her car
and in desperate need of support and hope, or a substance
abuser who's afraid to commit to a drug rehab program. Sadly,
there are also many young children and teens who've been abused
or witnessed domestic or drug violence in the home who are
referred to us by their schools for behavioral problems -
to name just a few of the types of people and issues treated
under this program.
How
many people have received help so far?
To date the Legacy
Fund for Mental Health at the Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic has provided
at least ten, fifty-minute therapy sessions to 98 clients,
ranging from 20 to 26 individuals per year - at no charge.
Where
have donations come from?
This program has
been funded with four annual grants of $2500 from Petaluma's
Legacy Marketing Group. The Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic has matched
these grants (since 2000) with $2500 from our annual participation
in the County's "Human Race"
charity walk/run event. Since 2004 we have received funding from Medtronic Foundation and since 2005 we have been awarded funding from Sonoma County Health and Human Services. But, as we face an escalating demand
for this service, we are appealing for your help.
How
can you help?
You can make a
tax-deductible donation
as an individual directly to our Legacy Fund for Mental Health.
Or you can sponsor one of our staff in the Sonoma
County Human Race, coming up in May 2008. Our goal is
to expand this program and provide in-depth,
mental health care for 100 in-need individuals during this
year.
At a
time when our county is rapidly losing long-established, public
and private health care resources, our Legacy Fund for Mental
Health can be one cost-effective way for this community to
pull together and help fill the void. Contact the Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic at 707/579-0465 ext. 230 for more info. Or Make
a Donation online!
