Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern
I am a third-year doctoral student and practicum trainee in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) at The Wright Institute (WI). My first clinical experience was working individually with emerging and older adults on a diverse East Bay community college campus within a brief therapy setting. The work has since expanded to utilizing a year-long individual therapy model in a community clinic; a modality I look forward to continuing at Lomi.
Prior to my doctoral training, I worked in various administrative roles within the medical field. I began this journey working as an administrative assistant and specialist at the Independent Living Resources in Solano & Contra Costa County. The medical journey continued with UC Davis as a clinical research coordinator at the Alzheimer’s Disease Clinic of the East Bay and the urologic surgery department on the Sacramento campus. In all of these settings, I worked with older adults with various levels of abilities. I bring their wisdom and the analytical skills I developed into the practice of psychotherapy.
My approach to psychotherapy is heavily relational and patient-focused. It is integrative and grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic thinking, somatic practices, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy techniques. Elements include learning and telling one’s story while grasping the viewpoint of another individual, understanding one’s emotions and how to connect the body’s sensations to emotive words, and processing grief and suffering well. These factors work together and allow for the development of lasting meaningful experiences and stronger relationships with one’s self and other people.
Psychotherapy is a learning ground for both the clinician and the patient. After all, neither have met or sought each other out prior to the treatment process. It is a place where relational skills are learned even as they develop, reflecting the patient’s ultimate desire for relationships outside of the clinical space. Training as a psychotherapist allows me to develop as a stable container consistent with the needs of the patient, who are welcome to explore and walk a path of revelation and integration.Education
