Robin Yorkey, MA

PsyD Trainee

Hi, I’m Robin! For 20 years, I was a teacher in the San Francisco public schools, and I’ve taught every age from 8 to 18. Literature was a focus in my teaching, and stories continue to be incredibly important to me—especially the stories of our own lives. Therapy is a place where we can examine the narrative of our lives, rewrite those narratives we’ve been given which no longer serve us, and find ways to ease our suffering and increase our capacity for the full range of life’s experiences and emotions. My practice is rooted in trauma-informed relational psychodynamic theory, informed by social justice, feminist, and queer activism.

Drawing from years of experience, I work with the full scope of the LGBTQ+ community, including nonbinary, trans or questioning youth. I am also interested in young people with anger issues and problems with school or authority, elders in the later stages of life, and everyone in between.  My therapeutic experience includes working with gender identity, relationship issues, sexuality, childhood trauma, anxiety, economic struggles, substance use, aging, health, life transitions, and ADHD.

My hobbies including listening to music (ideally on vinyl), reading (especially mysteries), attending opera and theater, bicycling and swimming, and trying to wrest control of my household from my two beloved Maine Coons, Emily and Charlotte.
